Preaching Through The NT More Effectively With A Bible History Timeline

Alas, a large number of Pastors and teachers in our churches continue to preach shallow, superficial, flimsy, light weight sermons and their Church members hardly grow in biblical knowledge. Preachers love to give us'moral essays' and'warming affirmations' because supposedly, if we truly love people this is what we will do. Too bad it seems, if God's men and women are falling through the cracks'for an absence of knowledge' so long as we are positive and loving to all. In reality, the more relevant we become to our world, the less relevant we are to our world.
Some years ago, I was speaking on the burial, resurrection, life and death of Jesus, and a retired minister and powerful preacher of the Bible, who had been a minister for forty years, came to me and reproved me smartly over some fascinating points I made and he referred to 1Ti 1:4'Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.' I humbly asked him if I was saying anything of a heretical nature in any way, to which he replied"No". I continued on to describe that in the case of that particular verse, it wasn't referring to examining the Bible but to the false teachings and philosophy of Gnosticism, but he would not accept it. So, how can a forty year minister & worker in the Gospel, not know and understand about something that possibly half the books of the New Testament relate to?
How can he understand and teach the Bible fully without being familiar with something that was so influential in the New Testament church? And then how can the congregation hope to figure out these things and be able to interpret their Bible properly, if they are not informed?
Let's us as tutors and preachers sew together the aspects of the Bible and God's plan into a complete picture that our people are able to draw on for the rest of life, helping them to figure out God, His Eternal Plan, the function of the Church and ways to better interpret the Bible to order our lives by.
It is not difficult to do, and it's not boring if we are prepared to put in a bit of study and prayer and fervor, and just possibly you can utilize a Bible Timeline too.
