Teaching Through The OT More Effectively With A Bible Timeline

In our Bible group some years ago, one person who had been a Christian and laboured in the local Church for many years, said,"Yes, but Abraham had the Law and so he understood about......" (they weren't referring to the pre-mosaic law) I wonder how many Christians would actually pick up the inaccuracy in this statement. Moses existed 500 years after Abraham and so it is not possible. I have since made up a Biblical chronological chart and explained graphically the chronology of individuals and occasions.

Years ago, I was speaking on the resurrection, burial, death and life of Jesus, and a retired pastor and powerful preacher of Scripture, who had been in the ministry for 40 years, came to me and reproved me smartly over some interesting points I made and he referred to 1Ti 1:4'Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.' I quietly asked him if I had been preaching anything of a heretical nature at all, to which he said"No". I continued to describe that in the case of that particular Scripture, it wasn't speaking to examining the Bible but to the false teaching and philosophy of the Gnostics, but he would not have it. Let me ask, how can a 40 year minister & worker in the Gospel, not understand and know about a thing that possibly 1/2 the books of the New Testament discuss?
How can he study and teach the Bible fully without being aware of a thing that was so influential in the New Testament church? And then how can the congregation hope to figure out these things and be able to understand their Bible properly, if they are not told?
Let's us as teachers and preachers sew together the aspects of the Bible and God's plan into a complete picture that our people are able to draw on for the rest of their lives, to help them to figure out God, His Eternal Plan, the role of the Church and ways to better interpret the Bible to model our lives by.
It's not hard to do, and it is not boring if we are prepared to put in a bit of study and prayer and fervor, and just maybe you can utilize a Bible Timeline as well.
